Studies indicate that 4,2% of the South African Population are affected by cognitive disabilities.
With the prevalence of these disabilities increasing, so too is the need for quality educational institutions
that accommodate these individuals, and ensure that they have access to their constitutionally enshrined
right to education.
Cognitive disabilities are caused by a variety of factors, such as infection,
lack of oxygen during birth, genetic disorders and physical injury.
These disabilities affect not only the child, but the families too.
Making them incredibly vulnerable and in need of support.
Understanding this vulnerability,
Sherwood Park Special Care Centre exists to provide
educational care and support to special
needs children and their families.
