SHERWOOD PARK SPECIAL CARE CENTRE [ NPO No. 004-515 ]

The Centre was established on 8 December 1984 by a group of very despondent parents who had been seeking admission for their children for the previous five years. Together with some community members, they launched the school with six children in the care of a teacher and an assistant teacher on the 4 February 1985. The premises was offered rental free by Al-Madressatul Islamia and transport was provided by some volunteer housewives. The initial battle to establish this institution was very tough, as there were no similarly run models to be emulated.

Currently four class groups are accommodated, viz. a nursery group, a junior group, a senior group and over 21 group. This expansion will allow accommodation of 50 pupils. The Centre underwent a transition phase during which the pupil population was changing and every one had to adapt to the rapid growth, which was brought about by new premises and the various alternatives suddenly available. A full time office was established which alleviated the administration burden tremendously. Presently we have outgrown this premises and the community still has a crying need for an expanded service. We are in the process of building a NEW Centre to accommodate more learners. A completely bespoke school facility to meet the needs and requirements of our community. We appreciate all the support, understanding and assistance from you and look forward to a positive outcome.
