OPERATION - Educational and Financial
The Centre operates from 08h00 to 14h00 Mon to Thurs and till 12h00 on Fridays.
Two staffed kombi’s start their daily pick-up rounds at 07h00. The children are picked up in Lansdowne, Hanover Park, Crawford, Rylands, Hazendal, Kewtown, Bridgetown, Parktown, Vanguard Estate, Surrey Estate, Primrose Park, Manenberg and Sherwood Park. The pupils are returned home from 14h00 in the afternoon.
The pupils are absolutely elated when their vehicle arrives to take them to school and back. Again, this is a joy that we cannot deny these special pupils. In their comparatively short life span these are dearly treasured moments with exceptional value to them.
The transport is also used for Centre functions and activities, like education outings, inter-Centre sport days (athletics), Fun Runs, Film shows, One-to-One day, fund-raising functions, etc.
After greeting and the initial toilet routine, the pupils proceed with their RI followed by their programme of activities for the day. These include group as well as individual activity in structured sessions: stimulating the social, emotional, gross motor development, fine motor development and self care of the pupil.
Their programme also includes meal time and free play.
The office is occupied on a full-time basis with the record keeping of all activities of the Centre as well as co-ordinating the functions of the various departments.
Thus far the Centre survived mainly on very exhausting fund-raising activities. The original monthly school and transport fee of R20 was raised to R45 and recently R75 is not a drop in the ocean in relation to the cost of running this Centre. Some individuals have been sponsored on a monthly basis towards the running cost of the Centre. To those sponsors who do not ask to be named: we say “We Salute you for being our Silent Backbone".
From the very onset of the existence of the Centre, the owners of garages like Riziek Motors, Landdrost Motors, Rawoots Motors, Nu-Star Service Station, Aden Service Station, Glendene Motors, Dalvies Auto Spares, O&J Motors, Nosarka Retreaders, Duinefontein Service Station and others sponsored the Centre by donating either a full tank of petrol per month, taking care of the routine maintenance of the vehicle, donating parts or paying for the licence. We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation.
The Zakaat Fund covered the salaries for the first three months and the Muslim Hospital Welfare Society also assisted us in facing those difficult times. The Centre has also been the beneficiary to various organisations staging major fund-raising activities on our behalf e.g. La Elegante, Muslim Views, International Social Trust etc.
We are in need of many more such sponsors as a second vehicle will have to be replaced soon and also because we would like to lessen the burden as it extends over a long period. The above contributors could sustain their commitment because it was within their means. This is what we are requesting, as we cannot afford to close this institution.
The present monthly running expenditure is between R20 000 and R25 000 per month.
